I think we do but there are two issues to resolve:

Otamendi/Zinchenko
Otamendi as centre half and Zinchenko as full back.
This combination has never worked. It was tried in the Centurian season after Mendy's injury but ditched in favour of Otamendi/Delph. Otamendi can't do left back and Zinchenko can't be relied on to stop a break down the right flank.

Rodri instead of Fernandinho:
1. Covering inside against a wide player going down our flanks. If the full back is beaten inside, Fernandinho would be on them in a flash in a way that blocks the pass into a runner in the centre. Rodri currently stays in the centre for a moment too long as he isn't quite up to speed in trusting the two central AMs to replace him in the centre as they funnel back to defend.
2. Stepping up to break up the oposition play on a counter attack. A counter attack if initially built down the centre would have Fernandinho tackling the player in a flash. Rodri isn't quite quick enough yet.
Both of these two issues are minimal, but have been exploited by our opponents. They will be fixed, but it takes time and practice.

Time now for either Fernandinho to move into the middle and hope he can be a steading influence like both Kompany and Laporte have been in that position over the years, or to turn to the youthful talents and exhuberance of either Eric Garcia (if playing out is the higher priority) or Taylor Harwood-Bellis (if we want a good old fashioned rugged no nonesense defender) in that role, personally myself I would have Fernandinho or Kyle Walker there for a period of time alongside a Harwood-Bellis, as I think he is better of the two and more suited to the football we will need to play against our next 5-6 opponents in both League and Cup.
